As we find ourselves in ‘the future’ of 2015 we thought we would take a look at the trends that have cropped up in social media and what to watch out for in the year ahead. Social media trends for the New Year inevitably build on past experiences so the majority of these items have been seen in experimental formats throughout 2014 but on most occasions in isolation. Through this list we hope to break down the experiments that we see taking off and having a greater impact on social media throughout 2015 and beyond, each of them another rung on the ever-evolving ladder of social media innovation.
So here they are, my seven trends for social media in 2015:
- The Internet of Things
- Messaging Apps
- Lifestyle Content
- Video content
- Native Advertising
- Social Listening
Each of these areas are works in progress and in some cases have been for several years already. But the key here is one of two things. Either they’ve come to fruition within the social channel and started to deliver in ways they previously only hoped for. Or the various elements and innovations, spurred on by social media and wider technology evolutions, have come together to form something new which has caught the imagination of the general user base. Either way, each of the above are beginning to gain sufficient momentum to transform the way we communicate, both in terms of personal relationships and brand-level communications.
